Mukougawa Pancake Miyajima

An enchanting little space, I felt like I’d walked into a different world! You walk through a cafe/ gift shop to a hidden sliding door. I arrived around 3pm and got a reservation for the last slot at 3:50pm. Such a wonderful experience, the care and attention the chef takes on making the pancakes before your eyes is amazing. He is so artistic and precise, even allowing you to choose a plate from the selection on the wall. The pancakes themselves are incredible, pillowy soft, like brioche texture mixed with pancake fluffiness. 10/10, amazing!

One of the best meals we’ve had in Japan. This is more than just a meal - it’s an experience. And it’s a special one. We came out with both full bellies and in the most zen form ever. The vibe of this place is extraordinary. The owner lets you pick your own plate and prepares food from scratch in front of you. The food is very good, pancakes are light and fluffy as a cloud. Toppings are great too. There’s only 6 seats inside.

My husband and I went to this pancake shop without knowing anything about it other than it had a high rating on Google. When we got there, it was unlike any pancake restaurant we had been to before in the best way possible. The atmosphere was incredible, and the food was delicious! Watching the chef prepare the souffle pancakes was a culinary experience and art form! I would highly recommend this place for a quick date in the middle of the day - we went around 2:30 pm and there was only one other customer which was perfect because it is a small place to begin with and created an intimate dining experience. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a unique meal, as this was one of my favorite memories from my 2 week trip to Japan because it was so pleasant and unexpected!

What you read in the reviews for this pancake gastronomical heaven is no exaggeration, this place is special, really special. From the very deliberate sequence of entry through carefully manicured spaces, the serene contemplative courtyard space with a meticulously hand crafted aged timber entry door, to the almost spiritual ambience of the interior space, this eatery just simply exudes elegance and refinement to the nth degree. And that's just the architecture we're talking about. The pancakes here are of course the real stars of the show and are just simply in a class of their own. How do you compare or describe perfection? Watching the owner-master patissier prepare, construct and assemble perfectly formed fluffy pancakes was pure unadulterated bliss and alone worth every penny of the experience. Tasting the pancakes brought everything to a celestial level simply unattainable at any other dessert restaurant in our mortal realm. These pancakes were so delicious, tears rolled uncontrollably down our stoic faces. We sat in utter stupor, weeped like little girls, pulled ourselves together, then repeated the entire process again. We wanted to live in that space and time. We did not want the meal to end. We did not want to leave. Time stood still for those brief fleeting moments, but the memories linger, and linger, and linger... We will snap ourselves out of this hypnotic trance, we will pull ourselves together, we will focus, we will organise, we will be back....

Just heavenly. So light and cloudy. A delicious whipped cream with subtle flavors, and juicy berries that bring it all together. Also a great opportunity to learn about the technique of the fluffy pancakes (I took notes! even if I'm never going to be at this level!). It's worth the price (+3000¥) if you're a fluffy pancake enjoyer.

All the reviews are true. This was an incredible experience - the pancakes were soft and fluffy with mouthwatering toppings. But the service is what makes the high price worthy. In a restaurant where there are chairs for only six people, it feels as if you had your own private chef at home. The chef also allows you to choose your own plate from his beautiful variety. BEST PANCAKES EVER! We got to choose our sauce and plate. They do it in front of you and when they flip the pancakes over it’s so satisfying. The staff are friendly and fun and the pancakes are so fluffy and airy and light and delicious. Still wondering how they get the timing perfect. Nothing beats these.
